A Small Vent

Flood clean up is still ongoing and it appears that FEMA is offering individuals in my area no assistance. The local governments are getting some aid which is good, but not nearly good enough.

The pace at which the clean-up is progressing.
I suppose that the financial climate in DC is such that aid money is tight. But not being able to access the Small Business Administration loans that could be made available to the community feels almost punitive. I know next to nothing about how government bureaucracies work. I think I'd go mad if I had to learn. I do know that my community is suffering. Other counties are getting aid for hail damage. We can't get aid for an historic flood that ruined cars, houses, property, and land. I've been told that the local emergency management agency had the feds in for a reevaluation. That is still a ray of hope, not bright enough to allay my worries, but hope enough to keep me, well, hopeful.

My business will pull through; I'm used to working with nothing. My community will pull through; it's going to be a struggle. I just wish... it doesn't matter what I wish. Wishing isn't like fishing. At least then I (usually) end up with something to eat.

Back to work world!
